Joining the AHRA Community

By Elisa Condon, RT(R), CRT

When my predecessor retired, she told me one of the most important things that I should do as a new imaging director is join AHRA. I wasn’t familiar with the organization, but I decided to take her advice. I was immediately helped by the knowledge that is shared between fellow imaging leaders on the forum. Over time, I also began to use the educational resources that are available through AHRA.

A few years ago, I came across information about the Basic Management track offered at the AHRA Annual Meeting. I work for a small community hospital, so unfortunately there was not money available in the hospital budget for me to attend the meeting. In 2017 I discovered the Osborn Scholarship and applied. I was so thrilled to learn that I had been chosen and would be able to attend this year’s meeting in Anaheim.

My first impression upon arrival was how professional and organized this meeting was. From the moment that I checked in I was provided with everything I needed to make the most of my time in Anaheim. I immediately felt like I belonged and was welcomed as a member of the AHRA.

Every session provided by the Leadership Institute was presented by diverse, well qualified speakers. The subjects touched on all aspects of radiology management, from project management to marketing, communication, asset management, informatics, patient satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. Each speaker shared nuggets of information to help me become a better imaging leader.

A common theme heard throughout the week was that everything we need to run a successful imaging department centers around having excellent, satisfied, well engaged employees. Focus on your team and quality, patient experience, growth, and sustainability will follow.

Before attending this meeting I thought of AHRA as an excellent resource. I now think of AHRA as my community. I left feeling inspired and wanting to do more. I cannot wait to attend the 2018 Annual Meeting. I plan to volunteer and to pursue the CRA. I hope to see you in Orlando.

Is anyone charging for Myocardial Strain Imaging in echo? I am hearing it is not a billable service, the code 0399T does not carry a productivity measure either.

    Hi Christopher!

I would advise posting to our online member forum, Connect, to get a response to your question: http://connect.ahraonline.org/home.

    Best,
