December 2012—The Hudson Valley AHRA members, aka, Diagnostic Imaging Leaders of New York (DILNY) gathered on October 9 for its 2012 fall meeting at SUNY Orange County Community College in Newburgh, New York. The meeting, which was held in OCCC’s beautiful Kaplan Hall, offered a day of information sharing, discussion, and networking. In observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the theme of the meeting was “Breast Cancer Management.”

The meeting agenda was an ambitious one with a goal to inform attendees on current and future developments in breast cancer management. Presentations at the meeting included: Tomosynthesis by Gayeann Minter-Larson (Hologic); Women’s Health Portfolio/Automatic Breast Volume Scanner by Ernie Liu and Jenn Okken (Siemens); Breast Imaging Update by Penny Lynch (Orange Regional Medical Center, AHRA/DILNY); Philips Microdose by Chandra Rancharan RT, MBA (Phillips); Kubtech Digital Specimen Radiography by Diella Mrnaci (Stamford Hospital, Tully Health Center); Fuji Aspire HD by Betty Dedon (Fujifilm USA); and Giotto Mammography/Stereotactic Imaging System by Bob Rusk (Giotto USA).

Following the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to participate in round table discussions. Topics included: MRI infection control/safety, best practice scheduling, and technologist IV implementation.

The meeting was a tremendous success, largely thanks to the excellent planning and organization of the AHRA committee members and meeting host, Orange County Community College.  Of course our fall meeting would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship provided by Hologic, Siemens Medical, NY Imaging, Kubtec, Fujifilm Medical Systems, and Philips Medical Systems. Special thanks to SUNY/Orange County Community College leadership and staff.

Attendance continues to increase, and the fall meeting attracted over sixty participants plus more than fifteen vendor representatives. The AHRA Hudson Valley committee members organize three meetings per year in the winter, spring, and fall. When organizing the tri-annual meetings, the AHRA and its DILNY members aim to contribute expertise to provide opportunities for continued education, CE credits, best practices, and networking related to radiology leadership.

We look forward to the next meeting, which is expected to take place in early 2013.
